Up to Us
The County has chosen not to contribute financially toward acquiring Sunnyside for the new park Los Osos needs. It is up to Los Osos to do this for ourselves. Our Los Osos Community Services District (LOCSD) has paved the way. They obtained the Wallace consulting group to develop a concept plan for turning Sunnyside into a park and center for community services. This concept would significantly boost opportunities for active recreation, promote health and well-being, and enhance community connections. It would be an investment that serves Los Osos today and for generations to come.
Our LOCSD also has worked with the Wallace group to do a thorough financial analysis of the cost to acquire, operate, and maintain Sunnyside. It is $185 per year or $15 per month per parcel. That amount would be needed for fifteen years, after which, it would reduce to $8 per month.
Recently, the LOCSD obtained a professional voter opinion survey. The statistically valid results showed voters believe it is important to address our park needs and also showed strong voter support for a small parcel tax to acquire, operate and maintain Sunnyside. Now it's up to us.
